HACKBLAGOEVGRAD 2016

About HackBlagoevgrad

HackBlagoevgrad is a week-long IT forum which will be held for the first time in Blagoevgrad. It combines the formats of an IT conference and a hackathon.

The conference will take part between the 14th and the 18th of November and will consist of several presentations and workshops given by professionals in the field.

The competitive part i.e. the hackathon will be a three-day event between the 18th and the 20th of November during which participants will work in previously formed teams. The topic for the hackathon is Hack to the Next Level. This means that the participants will be encouraged to create innovative products that can solve problems on a local and national scale.

Important for the presentations:

  • Teams have a total of 5 minutes to present and do the Q&A.
  • Teams should push the latest version of their projects on Sunday morning.
They can push later during the day as well, but that's not obligatory.
  • Teams should focus on the functionality, originality and presentation of their projects.

The Prizes for the hackathon are as follows:

Organizers

We, the people behind the scenes of HackBlagoevgrad, are a group of young enthusiasts who believe in the future of technology and in the abilities of our fellows to take the initiative and make a change.

Currently, the main responsibility for the organization of the week-long event is shared between The Hub at the American University in Bulgaria, the High School of Mathematics “Acad. Sergey Pavlovich Korolyov” in Blagoevgrad, and other devotees to our common mission. Clearly, our dreams would not have become a reality without the special help and support granted by our partners from HackBulgaria.

FAQ

Who can attend?

Everyone is welcome! Students, professional developers, enthusiasts, hobbyists, hackers, designers, entrepreneurs, etc.

Can I attend just the hackathon?

Yes, feel free to do that. We highly encourage you to take part in the conference as well though, since the lectures will be of great use.

What should I bring?

Everyone should bring with him/her a laptop for the hackathon. If you want to do a hardware hack, don't forget to bring the devices you plan on working with.

How much is this going to cost me?

Admission is free for all! Food and drinks are on us. Seats are limited though so be quick to register!

What can my team build?

Whatever hardware, software, or technology-related projects you and your team can come up with! Projects should not be developed in advance and they will be judged based on creativity, technical difficulty, polish, and usefulness.

Should the projects be uploaded to GitHub?

Yes, and they should be public from the very beginning. We will keep the list of the repositiries in order to monitor for cheating. We will share the list with the jury, but not with the rest of the participants.

How many people can be on a team?

Teams may contain between 2 and 5 people (inclusively). If you don't have a team prior to HackBlagoevgrad, that's completely fine - we will be holding a team-matching session at the beginning of the hacking period.

What if I have a question that wasn't answered here?

We’re here for you! Send us an email at info@hackblagoevgrad.org or feel free to reach out to us on Facebook or Twitter.
